Wesley-Rankin Scholars- Weekdays

Organization: WESLEY RANKIN COMMUNITY CENTER

PLEASE READ!

Scholars is Wesley-Rankin’s newest initiative, in partnership with the June Shelton School, to provide reading, spelling, and handwriting intervention for students with learning differences. Shelton is the largest independent school worldwide for intelligent students with learning differences.

How does the program work? The WR Scholars Program offers tutoring using Shelton’s SEE (Sequential English Education) curriculum and a multisensory structured language (MSL) approach.

Auditory and memory exercises are also included.

The Scholars program meets on Saturdays at Wesley-Rankin's main center and Monday-Thursday at St. Mary of Carmel.

We need tutors. Wesley-Rankin has high hopes to grow this program. Yet, we can only take additional students when we have additional tutors. Potential tutors can serve once per month or more frequently, as able. For volunteers willing to commit to at least three weeks per month, he/she qualifies for paid tutor positions. All training materials are provided.

Training sessions are available at Wesley-Rankin. Our next training is Saturday, September 9th 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

If interested in more information about this opportunity, please call or email Becky Stegmann, Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@wesleyrankin.org or 214.742.6674 x 110.

Mission Statement

In collaboration with our West Dallas neighbors, Wesley-Rankin Community Center identifies and bridges gaps in education, health, and skills development by providing multigenerational programs that empower families to access their full potential.

Description

Wesley Rankin Community Center encourages education and community fellowship by offering a wide variety of programs for all ages. We offer GED/Parenting classes, computer literacy classes for adults, Elementary and Youth After-School programs, a Senior Citizen Program, and much more.

We know community transformation takes place when we are able to open our hearts to the fact that we all have something to teach and learn. At this Center of Community, we welcome diversity, sharing, and the common work for equity.
